In fact on this kind of harmonious form, The Thrills possess enough blissed-out soul to give the rest of the miserably-inclined indie scene a tan.
Santa Cruz (You're Not That Far) starts out on a bone-dry, sombre note before banjos (yes, bloody banjos!), a decidedly chipper country-pickin' groove and airy-fairy, Beach Boys-ish harmonies kick in. Even the most stubborn killjoy would be hard pushed not to raise a wry smile at the sheer joy The Thrills exude on the track.
