Blue - 'Curtain Falls'
(Friday November 12, 2004 1:02 PM
)
Released on 08/11/04
Label: Innocent
Pop fans will note that the intro to this – a pre-recorded “Your call cannot be completed as dialled” message – exactly imitates the beginning of Take That’s “Babe”. That it then goes potty and uses the same Stevie Wonder sample as Coolio’s “Gangster’s Paradise” shows that, yes, it probably is a good idea for the lads to ‘have a breather’.
The theme of the song – like TT’s “Never Forget” or the Spice Girls’ “Goodbye” – is retrospection, a look back over their, ooh, three year career with a tear in the eye and a few more pounds around their midsections (to be fair, that’s all Antony). “Together we faced the cold outside/No-one can say we didn’t try,” they yawp, like they’ve been painting the Humber Bridge all this time rather than popping up on CD:UK to do some dancing.
It certainly doesn’t like they’re planning to return – Loopy Lee, we miss you already.
