If ever there was a band running out of ideas, it's The Zutons. After the fantastically catchy, '50s Americana of their debut album, "Who Killed…..The Zutons", their follow-up, "Tired Of Hangin' Around" felt like an uninspired retread, and no more so than on "Oh Stacey (Look What You've Done)". Despite having all the right ingredients - the kooky sing-along, milk shake sentiments, squawking Dragnet saxophone - "Oh Stacey (Look What You've Done)" has them as a shadow of their former Technicolor comic book selves.
It's like they've painted themselves into a retro corner and now can't see a way out. Where once they were a fun B-movie throwback, now they're, a band from Liverpool, trying to sound a bit American, but not really believing a word of it. Like Gomez before them, The Zutons are a band whose unique selling point has become the noose around their necks. If they want to have anything like a future, they need to reinvent themselves, and quick.
