Yeah Yeah Yeahs - 'Is Is EP'

Released on 23/07/07
Label: Polydor
Recorded in a single day in New York, this blistering five-track EP features songs that were written while the Yeah Yeah Yeahs were touring "Fever To Tell". The idea, apparently, is to have an EP that's "bad, suggestive and wrong", featuring songs "that encourage bad listening habits". Which is bandspeak for "We've gotten a little too commercial of late, let's get back to what we know and love. You'd prefer it, we'd prefer it - just don't tell our accountants."
So the songs are filthy, in all senses of the word. "Rockers To Swallow" is a dark, dirty, primal thing, crawling through the grime with the ghosts of Gallon Drunk and every moody noiseabilly since The Birthday Party. "Down Boy" keeps up the darkly carnal vibe while "Kiss Kiss" finds Karen O spitting attitude like the coolest woman on the planet (which she is, of course). And as there's five songs on the EP, it's not chart eligible. How sexy is that?
