Those Dancing Days - 'Hitten'

Released on 28/01/08
Label: Wichita
Another week, another knockout single from Sweden, officially The Greatest Per Capita Pop Nation On The Planet. Fans of the '60s-inflected music of Peter, Bjorn and John or The Concretes will revel in "Hitten"'s soaring strings and rampant, rolling drums, while also savouring the melancholic undertone that seems to come with living in a country where winter daylight lasts about as long as it takes to do up your shoelaces in the morning.
What makes Those Dancing Days different from their rivals is they are all teenage girls, quite astonishing given how very sophisticated and well rounded their sound is, and how worldly wise their lyrics. This is not - repeat not - "Cleopatra Comin' Atcha". "I wanna know why I plan to make things easier for everyone but me", Linnea Jonsson sings with a full throated, smoky soul voice far beyond her years. "Hitten" is Swedish for hit. It deserves to translate.
