Label: Sunday Best
If your exposure to Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip is limited to their freak 2007 hit "Thou Shalt Not Kill" then "Look For The Woman" will come as something of a shock. Out go the nosebleed Nintendo bleeps and the righteous sermon on modern culture, and in come a gentle, laid back groove and a tender, sad dissection of a dying relationship. All of which is good news for those of us who hoped Pip might have a long-term, non-novelty career and bring his intelligence and generosity of spirit into the mainstream.
While Le Sac's languid, bass-heavy tune occasionally edges into Just Jack realms of blandness, and the chorus sounds uncomfortably like U2, Pip's original, off-beat rhymes and vivid insights rescue it. Like "Thou Shalt Not Kill", the core message is to chase your dreams and use your brains, instead of "Living like a hack, half committed, half relaxed." A welcome counterpoint to a celebrity soaked, mediocrity choked culture.
