You can see the logic here. Plug two of the sexiest, most beautiful humans alive into the same mixing desk and watch them generate enough electricity to power North America. Sadly, something seems to have gone wrong and there's barely enough energy here to make one lightbulb flicker in a Hartlepool outhouse.

Perhaps it's the cynicism with which Maroon 5 have tried to revive their flagging latest album by drafting in Rihanna, perhaps the hottest star in the world, to re-record "If I Never See Your Face Again" as a duet.

Perhaps it's the ludicrously glossy, plasticky sound, any guitar grit carefully sieved out as if Living In A Box were on production duties. But most likely it's just the fact that there's barely a song here for either singer to wrap their tonsils around. Watching the video on mute will probably be more enjoyable.
