It's hard to know how to take Stockholm's Those Dancing Days. From "Home Sweet Home", it's difficult to tell if they're throwaway indie-disco fun, wide-eyed day-glo kooky or serious contenders who just happen to write goodtime sing-alongs. While on the surface everything about them from the bright jangle of the guitars to the sugar-coated punk crashing from the rhythm section, says that they belong firmly in one of the first two categories, there's something in singer Linnea Johnson's less-than-throwaway performance that says they may yet do a CSS on us and mature into 'proper' songwriters.
Who knows whether that would be a good or bad thing, the jury's still out on CSS. As it stands though, Those Dancing Days are caught between a fun and a serious place; a potentially important band in danger of being written off as a joke or a bit of fun that's in very real danger of being taken too seriously. Ultimately that means they and "Home Sweet Home" are neither here nor there, curious non-entities both, albeit undeniably catchy ones.
