CSS - 'Move'

(Wednesday October 15, 2008 8:20 PM )

Released on 13/10/08
Label: Sub Pop

The arrival of CSS' second album, "Donkey", caused much wailing and gnashing of teeth amongst the critical community as they decried the absence of pop nous and innocence that made their debut album such a joy, that somehow they'd lost the very things that made them such an off-kilter delight in the first place.

Well…to a degree. "Donkey" may have relied more on Pixies for inspiration, while Lovefoxxx's increasing grasp of the English language meant a decrease in the lyrical madness that made their bonkers pop so seductive in the first place, but "Move" is an attempt to return to the core values demanded of this Brazillian party monster.

Funky, frothy and fun, CSS use Tom Tom Club's "Genius Of Love" as their template once again, pump it full of high grade Ritalin and sugar and let the results dance themselves into a dizzying frenzy. By their own inadvertently lofty standards, CSS have fallen a little short but compared to the majority of the guff that masquerades as pop, this'll do just fine.
