Say what you like about Coldplay - and God knows many people do - but you can't accuse the hand-wringing quartet of standing still. As displayed by this year's "Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends" album, Coldplay's search for a new sonic palette to paint from brought them in contact with producer Brian Eno, the man who stretched U2's echoed flourishes into a widescreen panorama, and the results raised as many eyebrows among the unbelievers as they did converts.
"Lost" serves as an advert for the band's upcoming "Prospekt's March" EP and is made all the more noteworthy by featuring Jay-Z. What is, on paper, once again a tantalising prospect, proves an ambitious minor triumph, with the most prominent hip-hop artist of our age resculpting the original from the moment he enters and launches a damning indictment at fame's door. "See Caesar / See Brutus / See success is like a sewer", he raps, presumably while admiring his superstar girlfriend in a pair of denim shorts cleaning the windows.
