Kaiser Chiefs - 'Good Days, Bad Days'

(Friday December 19, 2008 5:53 PM )

Released on 15/12/08
Label: B-Unique

Kaiser Chiefs are a smart, knowing bunch, so they are no doubt fully aware of how fast things change in popworld, though even they may be a little shocked at how rapidly the zeitgeist has fled from them and their new producer, Mark Ronson. Recent album "Off With Their Heads" has sold disappointingly, their once record-breaking ticket sales have slowed and their last single floated in and out of the Top Ten without many non-relatives noticing.

"Good Days, Bad Days" seems unlikely to reverse the decline. Not that it's greatly different to the hits with which they forged their fame, boasting the same kind of spidery guitars, thumpingly simple rhythms and catchy shout-along melodies with an added touch of Futureheads angularity. It's just that all of a sudden it seems a little pointless and obvious, a fact unfortunately hammered home by the looming return of Blur, a band who can do everything they can dd, but better, and with ten times the invention and intelligence. Forecast: more bad days to come.
