Twenty-five years in the music biz and Chaka’s still going strong, this time with help of The Artist formerly known as squiggle. His influence – as songwriter, vocalist – gives the album that p-funk feel on certain tracks. This works well with Chaka’s assured vocal delivery and shows her as an artist who has the confidence and ability to traverse musical genres without even blinking. The album’s title track is a breathless jazzy affair whilst things go uptempo on Pop My Clutch which features a guest rap from Queen Latifah. Mature, focused and reeking of quality, this one’s highly recommended.
