At last we can retire our worn out copies of Crowded House’s ‘Woodface’ and celebrate the new dinner party wallpaper of ‘The Hush’. Seriously, once the familiar strains of ‘In Our Lifetime’ has slipped by it’s impossible to concentrate on this collection of by-numbers pop r’n’b blandness for more than a few mouth fulls. You can play spot the Supremes melody between courses, but even that gets a little tiresome after a while. The talented Ms. Spiteri may be successfully marketing herself as some sort of sexbomb – she seems only to exist these days either onstage with her ‘band’ or rolling around stiff-nippled in the surf – but when it comes to the music, Texas seem to have lost their way. What exactly is the Gary Numenesque ‘Zero Zero’ all about for example? So many questions, so little time. AS
