Clinton is the new alter ego for Tjinder Singh, outspoken singer and producer with Cornershop. Along with partner Benedict Ayres, he has come up with a sultry dance album crammed with excellent tunes. It's a mad concoction of great beats, meaningful lyrics, vocoders, samples, scratches and some delightfully cheesy sounds that sound like they came straight from a child's cheapo Casio synth. Title track 'Disco And The Halfway To Discontent' is a moody populist rant with a hypnotic bass sound that grooves away. 'Saturday Night & Dancing' is quirkily upbeat, as befits a tune celebrating the top clubbing night of the week with your lover. The single 'Buttoned Down Disco' is there in all its wild and wonderful sampled glory, there's funk and ska in 'The Hot For May Sound' and the exotica of the East is not forgotten in the sinuous Bollywood sounds of 'G.T. Radio'. Something for everyone really. SD
