Last year's Mercury Prize darlings Gomez release their follow-up albumto 'Bring It On, but is it a prizewinner?  Probably not.  It'svery good but it's not great. There are beautifully crafted, deftly produced songs thatare safe rather than dangerous, that will please loads of people, particularly in Americawhich is already getting into Gomez,  and where the familiar isalways more acceptable than the avant garde. And judging by their sound Gomezare very into America. This is not to say the lads haven't branched out a bit. While thereare of course the clean guitars and melodic rock-style vocals you would expect, sometracks do offer something a little different.  'Devil Will Ride'uses that favourite tool of the danceworld, the vocoder, and 'Fill My Cup'comes in with a splash of horny dirty guitar, a sound that runs through the track giving anice crunchy texture, and which appears again as a terrific noise break.
