Label: Music Man
This album is the outpourings of the last six years from Chicago wild ''n'' crazy guy Green Velvet aka Cajmere aka Curtis Jones. Green Velvet has his own take on techno and this record charts his move from the early tunes - pure nostalgia which evoke walking through the dry ice atmosphere of a black walled techno club gleaming with fluorescence - to his later tunes which move with the itchier vibe of tech house. This album is moody with a dark sense of humour, combining insistent rhythms with flat, deadpan spoken vocals. There''s a Germanic feel to some of the tracks such as ''The Red Light'' which is reminiscent of 80s minimalist pioneers DAF. There is grit, there are spikes, there is tongue-in-cheek humour, just like the man himself who is renowned for going out live wearing a green wig and ranting at the audience.
