Very interesting things are afoot at Ninja HQ and at the head of these new developments is J. Swinscoe''s Cinematic Orchestra project. Swinscoe instigates live studio jazz sessions by providing his musicians with the bones of a track - sampled loops - which they then work around. The fruits of the sessions are then re-moulded in the studio and the results, as they appear on this fascinating album, vary between smoky downbeat jazz-hop (aaarrghh!!- sorry) and full-on be-bop madness. Hopefully, ''Motion'' should make sense to the traditional Ninja audience and the jazz beards alike. Thus, saving the album from consignment to the trendy bucket because this deserves to be heard by more than just a handful of trainspotters.
