Label: Warp
Three separate double album releases from Warp to celebrate the label''s 10th birthday. The first CD pays homage to the tracks that influenced the label''s unique sound, gathering together tunes from 1987 onwards which laid down the blueprint - Mr Fingers, Rhythm Is Rhythm, Phuture and even Unique 3. CD 2 reminds us just how groundbreaking the label was when it emerged offering a trawl through the back catalogue of spare northern bleeps and sub-bass. It is easy to forget that the influence of the likes of LFO, Nightmares On Wax (pre-weed obsession) and Sweet Exorcist extends well beyond the current Warp output to take a large hand in the development of early drum ''n'' bass amongst other dance forms. Nightmares on Wax were ''eclectic'' long before we got sick of people using the word. Lastly, CD 3 forms an ambitious remix project with producers like Four Tet, Mogwai and Underdog taking turns to remix selections from the label''s back catalogue. The results are both excellent and just plain odd in equal measure.
