On the surface of it trance is a pretty overplayed and hyped genre at the moment, especially when you consider the current chart dominance of acts such as Alice Deejay and Gouryella. Dig deeper though and there's still some excellent music coming out of that genre and Gatecrasher thankfully does not suffer by association with the scene. 'Disco-Tech' gathers some of the tougher, more progressive tracks emerging which inhabit that trance/house/techno/future-funk zone put together on a double CD which is intelligently programmed. It's also good to see that Gatecrasher don't have to rely on a big name DJ to put this mix together. Tracks vary from the obvious big synth breakdown of System F's 'Out Of The Blue' to the twisted progressions on the Push remix of Sunscreem's 'Exodus'. You also get Paul Van Dyk, Leftfield, Pulser, Chakra and Planet Perfecto. Critics may sneer, but there's no denying that this type of music is the soundtrack to a lot of good nights out for a hell of a lot of people out there. Put this on, closer your eyes and just imagine the Gatecrasher kids getting their rocks off to the oscillating chords and bouncy bass pads.
