Colin Dale was the master of techno during the scene's heydey - a true pioneer. He presented the best and most innovative techno show on London's Kiss 100 and, with Colin Faver and Brenda Russell, promoted Knowledge at SW1, probably the best London club of the mid 90s. Here he selects some of his favourite techno offerings of the moment. It's aptly called 'Abstract Funk' and is typical of Colin Dale's attention to detail - so you know what to expect from this album of cool tunes from the likes of DJ Assassin, Scratch Massive, Sirus and Firefly. This is a mood-laden selection of tracks with emphasis on strings, funky or squelchy bass lines, and gentle drum sounds. There's nothing nasty here, it's minimal, easy on the ear stuff that makes great chill out music or background sounds. Nothing leaps out and grabs you, yet nothing offends. A smooth tasting brew for enthusiasts.
