This album of exclusive or unreleased cuts, put together by DJ Hyper, takes nu skool breakbeat down the trancier route with offerings from the likes of Way Out West, Hybrid, T-Power, Terminal Head, Rennie Pilgrem and General Midi. 'Y3K' is filmic in concept – the tracks drip atmosphere with their exotic use of lengthy string sweeps, tinkling piano lines, largin' it bass and occasionally eerie vocals. The tunes range from the delicate – Way Out West, Slacker, BT/Hybrid; to the tuff – General Midi, T-Power, Terminal Head, Rennie Pilgrem, The Light vs Proper, Filthy, Naughty and Ils. In between lie Metisse, Hybrid and, interestingly, Shut Up And Dance going a little bit woozy on a Flat Beat tip with 'Alchoholic Beans'. There's enough to please everyone here – from the dirtiest, funked up street sounds to icy romanticism.
