Danish techbeat tunesmiths Shanks.dk recover from their rockin' single 'The Smile Knock-out' with 'Quick Recovery', an album that showcases their skill in blended beats, chopped up vocals and sorted synth sounds. There's an intriguing complexity to their tunes that gives the tracks a richly textured quality such as 'Leg And Feet Freaks' in which a deliciously strident trumpet blares and is interrupted by Le Tone-like bleeps, or 'Assassin Star', a guitar introed tune with an American style vocal delivery. They even move into the ballad arena with 'Final Lies' which starts with atmospheric sloppy wave noises and washes along over a bed of full vocals. Shanks.dk have some innovative ideas and craft some excellent sounds but they are let down by their tendency to widdle on rather than keep to a solid groove. They flirt with the idea of being experimental to the detriment of really strong tunes. When they do lock down they do it with style. More of that please.
