You already know Amel Larrieux, not only is she a former member of Groove Theory, but she has also been involved in many of the soul productions that have dominated the scene over the past few years. Unfortunately, this beautiful album doesn't have the same iconic appeal of Amel's labelmate Macy Gray and it would be foolish to predict the same spectacular success for 'Infinite Possibilities'. It's a shame because it contains some of the best organic soul music made since Eryka Badu released her debut.
'Get Up' grooves with a conscious hip-hop vibe and warm jazz instrumentation, 'INI' combines tabla and electro-bass with the same warm keyboard bursts and 'Down' follows a more traditional jazz structure. Throughout 'Infinite Possibilities', the production of Amel and her husband Laru Larrieux never loses its lazy groove, keeping us alert with the rich variety of rootsy influences that make up the sound.
