The Idjut Boys have come up with a nice variety of tracks on this mixed selection. From the dubbed Afrobeat of Francois K's mix of Femi Kuti's 'Shoki Shoki' to the out-and-out party disco vibe of Sweat Shop's 'Syrup', this is an unusually coherent set. The guys have a nack for whipping up a disco and salsoul selection into a frenzy of echoed samples and effects, sustaining bongo rhythms and finally unleashing a spinning globe of lush disco keys. They also manage to err off into techno territory with April Brikah's pounding 'Groove Las Chord'. All told, this is a proper mix album that runs through highs and lows, develops intricate and effective mixes and, better still, sounds like a great club set.
