The Boyz From Brazil - 'Rue Martel'

(Wednesday May 10, 2000 12:24 PM )

Released on 08/05/2000
Label: Ya Basta/ Mineral

Phillippe Cohen Solal and Christophe H Mueller's record label throws out a broad net and somehow manages to reap a quality catch.

The tracks compiled here, all previously available on vinyl, cover the gamut of styles while still managing to sound like a complete package.

Somehow it feels natural that Stereo Action Unlimited's upbeat Latin tune, 'Hi Fi Trumpet', is followed by the dubbed-out funk of Gotan Project's El Capitalismo and The Boyz From Brazil's inverted tango track, S'Amor. Elsewhere we find freeform jazz nestling beside spaghetti western-laced house, carnival rhythms, deep house and tech funk.
