You can rely on Germany's favourite trancemeister to come up with an album of tunes that are a seamlessly sculptured waveform of washy synths, pearly female vocals and bubbling riffs that drift mesmerisingly over darkly pounding drums like surf dashing over a rocky coastline.
But like surf, which can rage and storm, Paul's music is not all sweetness and light. There's a toughness behind it that gives his music that exciting bite so much trance lacks.
Paul Van Dyk is one the DJs responsible for last year's trance trend. Both as a DJ and an artist, he was right in there from the beginning, indulging his love of trance and house back in the early 90s in East Germany - before he became a top deckster on the world DJing circuit.
This album charts his progression over the last three years and includes a number of his hit singles including 'Way/Avenue' and 'Words' and his latest release, 'Tell Me Why (The Riddle)' - a cool collusion with Saint Etienne.
