Chris Brann, the mild-mannered man behind P'Taah, is none other than the Atlanta-based producer who brought the world chart act Wamdue Project and that 'King Of My Castle' hit.
But before you start telling the king where he can shove his castle, Bran now assures us that Wamdue is dead. So it's long live P'Taah, because this ain't getting Gail-ed or Jamie-ed on Top Of The Pops.
Which is a good thing, because what we have here is profound stuff indeed. Supplementing his own electronic contribution with rich layers of percussion and some dark, jazzy soloing, Brann sends for the ambience and produces a set that washes over you like a giant tide of deep, dubby house.
Around the middle of the album, a big wave of slightly funkier stuff hits the shoreline via 'Apricot', 'Flying High' and 'The Answer Is Silence', but as a whole 'Compressed Light' sucks you into the entire experience – and up loud, with the lights down, that must be the reason why he rules his castle. If you'll pardon the expression.
