Glasgow's Soma crew tweak the afro, percussion vibe, layering meaty bass lines over Latin house and funky break beats.
The result of a collaboration between Slam DJ Stuart McMillan, Glenn Gibbons of Rejuvination and Nick Peacock, Inspiration and Light glides in with a wedge of Gorgonzola keyboard, glittering percussion and a spoken dedication to African music.
It's an inauspicious start that serves as a bed to introduce the main themes.
'Inspirational Breaks', the first proper tune, rises from its slumber and launches into a stomping afro-house groove driven by an organic b-line.
The aptly titled 'Afro-Zen-Trick' slips into break beat territory, while keeping the central afro-Latin theme in tact, and 'Latin Stroll' pays more direct homage to batacuda.
'Future Manifesto' settles into ambient jazz, 'Flyin' High' returns to house, 'Ignite The Light' re-introduces a 'House of Wax' bass led groove, and 'Don's Different Ducks' meanders into retro down beat. The ultimate percussion break is saved for the final track, 'Guyana'.
With DJs such as Roger Sanchez, DJ Sneak and Jazzanova giving it props, this is set be the sound track of the summer for the more discerning listener.
