The debut 'Chickeneye' surfaced two years ago and at the time earned itself the reputation of being a groundbreaking, beat-infested long-player from a Brooklyn DJ who, and we've never found out why, decided to move to sunny Liverpool.
It was an album that gave more than just a passing nod to Mr Punk Roc's electro forefathers on tracks like 'Far Out' and 'My Beatbox', with fast-paced rapping and bleeping noises that resembled explosions from Space Invaders. He also took the opportunity to rediscover his scratchadelic roots with the downtempo 'No Meaning' and perhaps his darker side on 'Dead Husband'.
'Spoiling It For Everyone' continues in an even more exploratory vein and it's perhaps because of this that it's not so packed full of obvious party tunes.
The opener 'Ever Get The Feeling You've Been Cheated' is a stirring, power groove that includes an unexpected, yet well executed, guitar edge. And it's the first clue that diversity is important to Mr Punk Roc this time round.
'Blow My Mind' and 'One More Bump', heavily influenced by P-Funk outfits such as Parliament and early Cameo, are good examples of this particular US import in a far more fluid, soulful mood (and almost, dare it be said, a more commercial one) than on his debut.
Yet anyone who is hanging out to hear strange wacky samples won't be disappointed. Devastating, pummelling beats and plenty of human beatbox vigour can be heard on 'The Living Sound Of Reality' where the quirky quota is covered quite nicely.
But it's 'Glue', sticking somewhere between reggae, drum'n'bass and jazz, which most appropriately sums up the common theme of 'Spoiling It…' and what it is trying to achieve. A splendid job of smudging the, what were once regimented, egotistical edges of popular dance music genres has been done.
