This latest instalment of the acclaimed Abstract Funk Theory series comes via the Kingston-based Circulation label and production duo of Paul Davis and Matt Jackson.
Their debut album, 'Colours Of Circulation', released earlier this year fused elements of break beat, house, and techno into a sound that was unique to Circulation.
It's techno that is minimal, yet warm. It's house that is deep, yet uplifting. All tied together with a soulful ambience and a solid sense of funk.
The legendary Carl Craig peels away a minimal electro excursion revealing the synth grooves of 'Televised Green Smoke'. The production can be smooth as silk, but the groove tough and tight, exemplified by At Jazz's rump- shakin' 'Bless The Funk'. The inclusion of The Ron Honey Experience's 'Nitedrive' is a wonderful example of blissed out minimal tech house. It's subtle sophistication is aural champagne on ice.
Circulation continue to unfold the grooves and reveal their story. It is at times enlightening, and certainly inspiring. They shine the light on the deep house rhythms of Motorfunk's 'This Time', then turn to Random Factor to offer a vocal electro interlude with 'Broken Mirror'.
Their own exclusive 'Circulation' track is deep house with a futuristic funk twist. This album represents a 360 view of the sounds that flow together to become Circulation. Pass it on.
