Harry K is a curious character. Not only does he DJ and cut people's hair at the same time, but he also produces some fairly quirky music under his own name and also as co-producer with Apollo 440.
Armed with just a pair of scissors, a schoolboy's passion for silly samples and a working knowledge of breakbeats, he has crafted this strangely titled and slightly off kilter debut.
His love of all things kooky and weird are melded together with a fairly steady selection of hip hop, funk, breakbeat and even drum & bass phrases. In one way it's similar to what you might hear if you picked up a random Ninja tune album, but without perhaps the same emphasis on original ideas or inventive arrangement.
It's not that Harry K's music doesn't work there are some tracks that'll have you nodding your head and maybe even jumping around for sure but after the first couple of cuts a feeling of inevitability creeps in and you know it's not going to get any better than this.
Perhaps if Mr K had concentrated wholly on the music and less on cultivating a pseudo-quirky image and moonlighting as a hairdresser, the results might have been a bit more impressive.
