As the summer oozes slowly by, there can be no better a mellow soundtrack to lazy sunsets than this debut album from Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker.
Previously best known for their remixes of Radiohead's 'Climbing Up The Walls' and Terry Callier's 'Love Theme From Spartacus', the London duo's first opus offers a sublime and soulful mix of jazz, funk, trip hop, sixties movie soundtracks and chilled ambient vibery.
Instrumental tracks like 'Polaris' and 'Out Of Town' sound like synthed-up, contemporary versions of cinematic John Barry themes; vocal tracks such as 'Destiny' (feat the mighty Sia Fuller) and the title track (feat husky soul falsetto from Mozez and Rhodes solo from Max 'I go out with Mel C me' Beesley inhabit the same easy going yet emotive territory as Morcheeba.
The nods to French outfit Air - who Binns and Hardaker have been oft compared with - come with the gorgeous acoustic guitar and string flavourings of 'Give It All Away' and the flutesome, trumpet-tinged instrumental 'Red Dust', while 'Likufanele' is the album's uplifting, gospel-tinged and dramatic centrepiece.
All-in-all a crafted, textured and subtly involving album, with more than a hint of the soothing sounds on Cafe Del Mar compilations and the perfect accompaniment to a little post-club or barbecued burger action...relish optional.
