Max Bygraves humour collides with comedy samples circa The Goons. Overlaying a plethora of organic analogue found sounds, Mr Dawes, a live member of Groove Armada and Herbaliser tours, injects what could loosely be described as a melange of sounds from farting duck calls to elephants stepping on cartoon mice.
Amazingly this wide vision of noise wraps itself into an interesting debut on Tummy Touch with the saws and monkey shrieks forming into a wide pan across the sounds of Afro, Latin and Tibetan territories.
Deep chambers of echoes vibrate against Blair Witch shuffles and Kazoos. Panting women blend with screams as voices fall over cliffs.
One track, 'Pop Music', appears to be made entirely of broken glasses, cracking champagne and aquatic pops. The tune culminates in a trademark Donald Duck send off sample.
The cover of this CD pictures a Dylanesque/Kevin Shields character drinking from a Chinatown mug surrounded with fluffy toys, twisted souvenirs and an international bongo collection.
As they say, a picture speaks a thousand words, but you'll recognise the Circus Train intro which has been knocking about in various forms for years. It's weird beat but cohesive, and at least the organic audio theme is homogenous chez Tummy Touch.
