As the breaks scene gains favour with DJ's within other genres (tech house, progressive, drum & bass, hip hop), leading breakbeat imprint Botchit and Scarper have been extra prolific to keep up with the demand.
Delivering swathe after swathe of feisty breakbeats, their cut-price Botchit Breaks series has been notably succesful, combining as it does wide-ranging quality tracks with a value-for-money ethic rarely seen within dance music circles.
For number 4 in the series, the label has once again enlisted the talents of various switch-doctors within and without the B & S fold. 'In It Together' by Atomic Hooligan gets the ball rolling, laying a gently sweeping intro over a fairly mellow bass 'n' beats workout, while SOTO and Amizaree step up with 'Hold On', a slightly tuffer but still abstracted set with a nice balance of fiery bass and steely vocals.
Obviously the vibe is varied once again, and the momentum is maintained throughout, as Rennie Pilgrem's growling 'Paranoia' classic gets the remix treatment from 10 Sui and Trigga, Digital Pimp lets loose a barrage of dirty funk and hi-hat bizznizz on 'Electric Drive By' and Aquasky vs. Master Blaster step in with their classic 'Master Blaster'.
Dee Kline and Morph are here for the party too with the hip hop/MC vibes of the rump-tastic and flavoursome 'Shake It'. Backdraft (feat Country Culture) also get a look in with a bass rumbler called 'Misconception', while B.L.I.M. and Chris Carter's 'Fatburner' possesses some warm funky bass and cuddly atmospherics to break things up.
With the final track a bass-freaked treat ('Pornography') from Jason Sparks and CD 2 mixed by Bournemouth rockers Aquasky, Botchit Breaks 4 is definitely another worthy installment of the saga.
