This man's musical arrangements have managed to win approval from many of those who matter.
The likes of Gilles Peterson and Patrick Forge have championed his work so far and when you hear this, his debut album, it is easy to see why. Brighton based Victor is someone who obviously sits comfortably within his musical surrounds. This is a record that flows effortlessly, with tracks that harbour beautiful instrumental arrangements and that cleverly play with time and beat arrangements Mother Savage Pt 1.
It's difficult to draw comparisons to an album like this. The powdery delicacy of his jazzy, drum and bass excursion 'I Rocked Shut' wafts slightly of a sifted Roni Size number, and with the funky 'Lone Wolf' he demonstrates all the jazzual dexterity the Silent Poets paraded on 'To Come
.
He breezes in some truly glorious orchestral arrangements and eastern influences (Pussy) that wouldn't be out of place in a Hollywood film score. The laid back bossa nova style of his new single Trying begins with a single plucked guitar like some archaic folk tune and then drips into a mesmerising throng of hummed vocals, bass and sliding percussion.
He has achieved more with this debut than many others could ever hope to achieve. This could be the start of something very special indeed.
