A live techno album eh? Don't see many of those 'round these parts...
The responsibility for this mix belongs half to Richard Brown - aka Cherry Bomb, one half of Swag and once Rhythm Invention on Warp - and half to Stefaan Music Man.
The latter heard Cherry Bomb's live set November 2000 at Remedy in Sheffield and was blown away by it. So, without the usual studio make over, the complete live set is released. The result is a tasty mix of gentle techno rhythms and percussive house sounds, woven - to these ears at least - seamlessly together.
The artwork insists: No edits - all mistakes included for no additional charge.
Bar four tracks released on Chris (the other half of Swag's Primitive label) all the cuts here are pure cherry bomb. They keep a deep and percussive groove, that sits between the out-and-out warmth of house, or the hardness of club techno.
'Addict' - released on the vinyl sampler - is particularly tasty, again taking a percussive line, not a million miles from progressive house minus the overblown epicisms.
'Reaction', also on the vinyl, takes another step towards that sound.
It's a set that builds to a heavier peak, and one that wouldn't be out of place at Fabric on Saturdays, The End on tech house day, Lost or Bugged Out.
How many live sets can you say that of? Cherry Bomb: tasty dancefloor detonations of the highest order.
