Currently saving the world at a cinema near you, superheroine Lara Croft has her adventures soundtracked by the cream of rock, dance and R&B.
Kicking off with the 'Tomb Raider Remix' of U2's 'Elevation', various tracks conjure up immediate images of how they might appear in the film. 'Elevation' is definitely a closing credits, triumphant procession inclusion with its anthemic "woo-woos" from Bono.
Nine Inch Nails' brooding 'Deep', meanwhile, would suit a going-to-work sequence, its pounding drums and Reznor's barked vocals suitable for when Lara arms herself to the teeth.
The Chemical Brothers chip in with squelchy bass and funky percussion on 'Galaxy Bounce', which is just begging for a chase. Missy Elliott and Nelly Furtado team up on a new version of 'Get Ur Freak On' to, y'know, emphasise Lara's independent streak.
Then it's the turn of the futurists, with Moby's 'Ain't Never Learned' sounding for all the world like something off a Prodigy album circa 1994 (Lara chills out in her country mansion), BT's burbling, rushing 'The Revolution' almost bursting to be played on Dolby Surround and Basement Jaxx doing their unique thing on the dark 'Where's Your Head At?' (preparing for battle).
With the likes of Outkast, Fatboy Slim, Fluke, Leftfield, Groove Armada and Oxide & Neutrino also present, the soundtrack certainly has the credibility to match the hype of the film that spawned it. There is a fair share of filler but as soundtracks go at least it seems to have a coherent plot. Unlike some of the film.
