Yes, I have seen KaitO. A couple of times playing live actually, and in all honesty, they haven't been too bad.
Daft backing vocals, a guitarist who looks like he's on the verge of a nervous breakdown and a hefty slice of Elastica-style attitude made for a pretty reasonable show. Sure, the songs weren't exactly memorable but you'd assume that once in a studio, producers could iron out those small problems.
This CD however, isn't reasonable. Far from it. You know your friends who don't like 'indie' music and swan around all day listening to identikit pop? If this is the future of British guitar music then they were right all along.
In fact, the more you listen to this the harder it becomes. Most of the tracks sound like rehearsal jams gone wrong - all deliberate cock-ups, nonsense shouting and off-key singing. The entire thing sounds like it was recorded in a corrugated tin shed and the melodies, if they can be called that, are the type of repetitive inspiration-free meanderings that tuneless wonders Brassy and Clinic wouldn't have the audacity to inflict on the public.
If you're so inclined, you'll probably hear 'Catnap','Thwipside' or 'Shoot Shoot' on one the more left-field radio shows accompanied by platitudes from the DJ about how great the new album is. Don't believe a word of it. They've listened for three minutes and hurled it onto the pile of CDs destined for the local music and video exchange.
Did I mention that this is shit?
