Si Begg's S.I Futures project is a freewheeling electro excursion that dips its fingers into the multitude of genres and styles that followed Arthur Baker and Afrika Bambaataa's 'Planet Rock'.
Despite the late Nineties revival and inevitable overkill that has turned most people away from electro, Begg approaches his music with enough originality to breath new life into the old dog, creating moments of unsettling brilliance.
Tracks such as 'Eurostar' are updated classics that stick firmly within the electro heritage, whereas 'All Terrain Aspects' is pure hip hop, the superb 'Freestyle Disco' is a dark tech house monster, 'The News' pumps out the four to the floor and 'Assault on Precinct 14', named after the cult Precinct 13 movie, is a disturbed hip-hop-horror soundscore.
Most importantly it's all done with a large dollop of humour, sign posted by the pastiche cinema opening of the album and continued through skilful but playful production and clever use of samples.
Totally sound.
