Apparently record labels keep their ideas and inspiration in a big barrel. No really, on a good day the barrel is over flowing with effervescent pop ideas and has spawned some of the biggest names in the business. Unfortunately there are times when it runs dry, in fact on the evidence of this shockingly flaccid effort it would seem that some days they have to scrape the bottom of it.
If you aren't familiar with this lot you should count yourself lucky. The ingredients are four, fresh out of school Swedish kids (two girls and two boys,) a bunch of cheesy ABBA covers all mixed together with a dash of HI-NRG and several tonnes of saccharine. Consume too much of this and nausea is guaranteed.
Now back with their second album they've decided not to do the usual 'we've grown up' thing but stick to their school disco themed pap. Yet 'Super Trouper' and 'Mamma Mia' aside they've dropped the covers and gone for some original (and I use this term in it's most loose sense) material. The problem is that they sound like a mixture of every second division boy and girl band that's gone before them, so much so that this collection is positively non-league.
Cliche ridden and without doubt the most soulless album in the world (
.ever!), if this really is 'Teen Spirit' it smells like the sort of thing you may be unlucky enough to step in.
