Out just in time for Christmas, Jurassic rockers Aerosmith release this double CD summarising the highlights of their past 20 years work on the Geffen label.
That the famously toxic twins of Joe Perry and Steven Tyler have lasted this long is testament both to their ability to turn out the Blues infused rock loved by rednecks everywhere and the skill of rehab clinics throughout the US.
Most of Aerosmith's greatest work was recorded through a drug haze in the Seventies, and aside from the occasional moments of genius that have occurred since, this collection is mainly composed of album tracks and the singles which saw them returning to the charts in the late 80s and early 90s.
'Livin' On The Edge' ,'Janie's Got A Gun', 'Cryin' and 'Love In An Elevator' are all here, as are some old classics - the Run DMC version of 'Walk This Way' and live recordings of 'Sweet Emotion' and 'Dream On'. There's even a cover of The Doors' 'Love Me Two Times'.
There are some remarkably cheesy moments that could have been taken directly from the current 'Real American Heroes' Budweiser campaign. As a Christmas present this is better suited to "younger" fans rather than the 50-somethings who loved the band in the 70s. There is no pre-Geffen material which means a lot of their best work is missing, there is no 'Draw The Line' or 'Toys In The Attic' here.
Still Aerosmith have succeeded where many of their contemporaries have failed and left a legacy scattered across over 30 years. For those about to rock
