As drum & bass shifts from it's dark-side obsessions to a more varied and ultimately more musical sound, the time is right for labels like Hospital to finally get their props.
Set up by ex jazz funkers Chris Goss and Tony Colman (aka London Elektricity) back in 1996, the imprint has consistently championed the more soulful side of drum & bass and has played no small part in bringing the genre to it's currently blooming state.
This compilation presents examples of the Hospital mission from the past, the present and the future. Starting out with High Contrast's well rinsed 'Make It Tonight', the LP moves slickly and smoothly through a soothing selection of rich strings, subtle vocals, rolling beats and highly polished production.
L.E reprazent with several tracks, including tried and tested floor smashers like the Total Science remix of 'My Dreams' (featuring Robert Owens), 'Superstructure' and 'Wishing Well'. High Contrast makes more appearances with tracks from his forthcoming album like the dreamy 'Remember When' and 'So Confused'.
Both sides of Delta's recent hit 'Roots/Submerged' are here, as is the Calibre mix of Danny Byrd's 'Changes' and Grand Unified's potent 'Music Makes Me Feel This Way'.
Having honed their sound specifically to appeal to hearts and minds as well as feet, you'd be hard pressed to find sonorous soul food this tasty and served at this tempo anywhere else other than at the Hospital.
