A mini greatest hits in remixed form, featuring performances from all eight different line-ups of the Destiny's odyssey, 'This Is The Remix' is another time filler between 'Survivor' and Beyonce & co's next semi-clad full-scale chart attack. Remix albums suddenly becoming in vogue - especially now that J-Lo's just topped the US album charts with one - they're frequently inessential fan-fleecing affairs that clog up an artist's catalogue in-between the 'proper' albums, and very rarely make it past a couple of plays.
Being a million-selling award-winning and chart-toppin' hit machine, even the passing DC observer would have at least half these tracks already, with Rockwilder's Missy assisted mix of 'Bootylicious' and The Neptune's re-do of 'Emotions' already appearing as extra tracks on the last two singles already, and how both 'No No No' and 'Independent Women Part II' have managed to make their third respective appearance on a Destiny's album is utterly baffling.
True magic can be found with the Timbaland remix of 'Say My Name' where he slows it down into late nite sci-soul seduction, the dirty beats of the Refugee Camp mix of 'Bug A Boo' and Maurice's Nu Soul Radio Mix of 'Nasty Girl' gives the album a welcome bit of filtered boogie relief. Although the latter's 'Xclusive Livegig' mix of 'Bills Bills Bills' disables the drama of the original with a clumsy house-up so cheesy even DJ Otzi wouldn't go near it. As for the smoochy gruel of bonus track 'Heard A Word', the best advice would be for everyone in general to steer clear.
The whole package comes across as a bit of a tatty money-making exercise, which takes the piss out of the fans who own most of this stuff already, and being of little use to anyone else. Still, it's waaay better than that whole Christmas affair.
