Honest JonsB' new record outlet fires out sixty minutes from the lords of Trinidadian calypso in London from 1950-1956 and it's wicked!
This is modern folk music from the first generation of immigrants to arrive to the hell of London with it's nightmare landladies and lords and bad fish and chips. Classic cricket appreciation comes from Lord Beginner, but a surefire smiler is Young Tiger's 'I Was There (at the Coronation)' ... which seems to have created more pride than the recent Jubilee.
More history comes in the form of 'Birth of Ghana' which charts that countries independence.
Politics slide with piano and sax, while the old debates around matrimonial bliss get a proper look in alongside 'newscast' type info tracks from 'back-home' in Jamaica.
Raw drums and squeals come in the shape of 'Kitch in the jungle', while skin colour gets a look in on the fantastic 'If You're Not White You're Black'.
This is the sort of record which would have been a staple in the boxes of Jon Carter or Richard Fearless in the Heavenly days.
Overall it's a brilliant socio-historical compilation from Ladbroke Grove's mainmen at Honest Jons. Thankyou very much.
