Moving Fusion first appeared on the Ram imprint in 1998 with 'Turbulence'.
Now, having contributed to the Ram gene stock with several pedigree 12s, Jeff Langton and Dan 'Spar' Sparham unleash their debut long player.
'Start of Something' is laced with examples of party-based funky drum 'n' bass, while also holding something less comfortable in its underbelly.
'Reality', for instance, is simple in structure and centred on a melodious descending bass line, around which wood blocks and break beats circle. Too tightly controlled to descend into chaos, it none the less tears at the leash, despite the relatively diminutive tempo.
In other places the album explodes, with tracks such as 'Battle Ground' successfully snapping the lead and charging headlong into the horizon. The crowning moment comes from the recently released 12" 'Party People' - an accessible roller coaster of a track.
And, being capable all-rounders, the MF boys drop some top dark stuff towards the end of the set via the distinctly eerie sounding 'Shadows' and the power surge of 'Mean Machine'.
Finally ragga enthusiast will find sustenance via '9 Venom'.
As it says, this has got to be starting something.
