Given the title of his debut album it won't surprise you to learn that Brighton based DJ and producer Format is unashamedly old school in his influences.
But before that has the 15 second culture kids disappearing to find their next Neptunes fix, it's worth noting that DJ Shadow hunted down Format in 2002 and asked him to do his support slot for the UK leg of his tour.
The other thing worth knowing about Format is he has a knack of digging out the right MCs for his arrangements.
After an interlude the album opens with last year's single, the Abdominal featuring 'Ill Culinary Behaviour' - a superb slab of breaks that has, as those 'mature' enough to remember 'Rappers Delight' will recall, a healthy old school rap obsession with food.
Having introduced one single, Format prematurely shoots his load and immediately drops his more recent single, 'We Know Something You Don't Know', which features Chali 2NA and Akil from Jurassic 5.
It's a bold thing to do and reveals that either Format considers the rest of his work worthy of single release, or else that he doesn't really expect listeners to persist longer than the first few tracks - so he might as well get the good ones in early.
It turns out the former is closer to the truth.
2NA's vocals are undeniably a high point on the album. But there are old tunes, such as a re-working of 'Last Bongo In Brighton' and 'English Lesson', which still hit the mark and new ones, 'Here Comes The Fuzz', that musically outstrip it.
And then the real highlights come from regular collaborator Abdominal, whose superb performance on 'The Hit Song' is only outshone by his vocal dexterity on 'Vicious Battle Raps'.
Which only goes to show it's never too late for mature b-boys to go back to old school.
