Some people might think it unlucky to celebrate 13 years of running a record label - maybe wait until the label's hit 15 or 20, something a little safer and more traditional.
Not Paul Oakenfold. He brushes aside the fickle finger of fate to proudly offer a compendium of some of the dance world's top tunes of the last decade and a bit.
"This album reflects the full flavour of Perfecto over the years. I hope you enjoy the journey so far as much as I have," he says. And we have.
Oakie is not only a superstar DJ, he also knows how to pick up a good tune when he hears one. Since he launched Perfecto in 1990, the label's consistently put out excellent dance tunes that not only reflect the times but which have also become classic anthems. Consequently, this greatest hits comp is stuffed full of enough chart and club hits and big names to suit anyone.
So who's on it then? Naturally there's the Perfecto Allstarz, Planet Perfecto and Oakenfold; then there's BT, Grace, Dope Smugglaz, Timo Maas, Carl Cox, Robert Owens, Fabio & Grooverider. The list just goes on.
And the tunes? Hot numbers include BT's sonorous 'Flaming June', Grace's uplifting, vocal anthem 'Not Over Yet', the deep dub beats of Gary Clail's On U Sound System and 'Human Nature', Oakenfold's sweet 'Southern Sun', the Perfecto Allstarz' uptempo version of that old classic 'Papa's Got A Brand New Pigbag', the eerily wonderful PPK's 'Resurrection' and Planet Perfecto's soaring 'Bullet In A Gun' with its humungous synth riff and spine-tingling vocals. And there's more of course.
All in all, an album that sweeps you from festive-laden winter dance floors to golden summery days in Ibiza. Whatever or wherever the club, whatever the mood, it's all here.
