Taking place in Dublin earlier this year, the annual Red Bull Academy selected its talent pool of DJs from 16 countries, stretching from South Africa to Scandinavia.
The Academy exists to provide already practising DJs and producers with a forum for exchanging skills, developing new ones and exchanging views with leading Industry figures.
This years roster of speakers included such diverse dance floor heavyweights Dr Bob Jones, Herbert, Damian Harris, David Rodigan, Storm, James Barton, Mark Rae, Cristian Vogel, Paul Murphy, David Holmes, Dave Haslam, Phil Asher, King Britt, Goldie, Mad professor, Claude Young, Darren Hughes, Tom Middleton and a whole range of specialist speakers, such as Roger Linn the inventor of the drum machine.
Although obviously aimed at increasing Red Bull's presence as a club drink, the Academy is an enlightened affair and avoids branding the event beyond its name. Once there the students are left to get on with experimentation and once they leave Red Bull in turn leaves them alone although past participants have kept in touch of their own accord, supported each others club nights and worked on music production.
But Red Bull are obviously aware they've produced something that is a little extraordinary and consequently a TV documentary is to be shown on the UK's Channel Four network.
