Expectations are high for onetime members of Daisy Chainsaw, Katie Jane Garside and Crispin Gray, judging by the several die-hard fans already going crazy for them before they even reach the flower-covered stage.
The excitement is as well deserved as it is infectious. Queen Adreena are a hundred times more compelling and a whole lot heavier live than they are on their current record, 'Taxidermy'.
And the band look fantastic. Garside in tiny vest and knickers and wild hair. Gray in a white suit. Bassist Dizzy Q looks like a centaur, topless, tight-trousered and high-heeled.
Much has been made of Garside's childlike demeanour and vocals which range from innocent choir girl to terrifying banshee howl to hellish roar. She possess all these qualities and more.
An undeniably sexy performer, wild and crazed, she is the ultimate seducer. She continually clambers all over an innocent security man, wrapping her legs around him and reaching out to her captive audience.
There aren't many bands you see these days and feel like you've witnessed a true rock 'n' roll show, like Ziggy and The Spiders or Patti Smith in their hey day. But this is certainly an event.
And the songs? Their recent single, a heavy as f**k version of Dolly Parton's 'Jolene', should, of course, be utterly laughable, but Queen Adreena somehow make it sound like it should have been done this way all along. Quite a feat.
'I Adore You', off 'Taxidermy', contains a xylophone solo amid the trademark Stone Temple Pilots-esque distorted guitars and the melodic refrain of the title. 'X-ing Off The Days', with it's gothic overtones and lyrics "you preach, you preach, you preach", won't do much to shake off the goth tag, but when it's as fantastic and enthralling as this, and peformed with the guts and gusto these four people give it, it can't matter.
They treat every song as a set closer, giving it all of their energy all of the time. It's exhausting. Queen Adreena certainly aren't likely to lose any of their Daisy Chainsaw fans, and are very likely to gain new converts. With a show this thrilling, they can't fail to.
