Before 'Super Trouper', photographers are frantically snapping away, not at the band, but at the crowd. This acknowledges two things
Firstly, that while the fans are likely to enjoy various stages of uplifing empathy today, they are very, very unlikely to look this happy and energetic again. We have just been called "beautiful Witnness people" after all.
Secondly, that this show - two indecent mini-skirts, some guitar solos, and one comedy telephone dialogue aside - amounts to nothing more than two girls and a tape.
Does it matter? Bjorn Again have been known to fill tents and provoke riots, for one reason only - it's a ray of familiarity. Festival afternoons are propped up by bands appealing only to a minority of fans, and for that reason, I propose that all future festivals should consist of four hours of tribute bands, followed by only two hours of 'proper' acts. Clearly, that would be much better value for money.
Post 'Waterloo', 'Benny' asks, "Can I just enquire as to whether you think we are as fantastic as we do?" Modesty aside, Bjorn Again are only as good as the crowd's memory. Not necessarily a bad thing.
